FOOTPRINTS

Oct 06

This week I want us to work on making “footprints”. This may take a little more time, but I believe it will be well worth it. We will begin by simply writing out what we hope will happen in the next few moments.

Again, it is important because the words you choose to write down force your thoughts to get specific enough to be summed up by certain words… Do you want God to direct you or give you insight? Do you want wisdom? Do you need forgiveness? Do you need faith? Just write down a brief prayer, one or two sentences, and ask for God to be with you right now.

2 Peter 1:5-8 (NIV)
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As you read through these passages, just allow God to show you what your are diligently adding to your faith. You began by placing your faith in Christ. Now, He says add moral excellence… How are you doing? Maybe you need to stop their and allow God to search your heart regarding the way you live.

Are there areas that need to be sharpened? Are there areas where you have allowed integrity to slide?

Write those things down and ask God to give you strength to add this first thing to your life. Use your pen and paper to do a little life assessment regarding knowledge, self-control, godliness, etc.

Finish this morning by trying to get one thought as to how God wants you to live from here. What would it look like for you to be diligent? How might adding self-control shape your day?

Lord, I ask for you to penetrate my heart. Give me patience not to rush this process. In fact, this whole thing is an act of faith, because I am not sure what to expect from this. But I will move through this and I look forward to seeing how you are forming me into the person you have created me to be. Amen.
